Great news: our application for SafeRun BCN has been approved under the European Solidarity Corps (Solidarity Projects) programme, and we are starting implementation!
SafeRun BCN is a youth-led initiative making street running in Barcelona safer for women. While the city promotes an active lifestyle, many women still plan their routes around fear rather than convenience: poor lighting, dark and isolated areas. We want to change that.
Over 12 months, a team of five young people will:
- build a free web app (PWA) — a collaborative map where runners rate streets by how safe they actually feel;
- host monthly Social Runs and exploratory walks (Jane's Walks) to populate the map together and document infrastructure gaps — broken streetlights, blind corners;
- run workshops on digital activism;
- compile the findings into a "State of Safety Report" for the Barcelona City Council, turning data into concrete improvements in the urban environment.
Our goals: 300+ active participants and at least 500 safety ratings on the map. The app's code will be published open source, so youth groups in other European cities can replicate the project.
Stay tuned — we will announce the first events soon. Join us!
